Creative Connections Project

We are looking for people to become part of an exciting project: the Creative Connections Art and Poetry Exhibition. Please read the information about the project and fill out the ‘Interest Form’. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small.

Art and poetry are important ways for people to express themselves creatively and we want to give differently-abled and abled artists and poets the opportunity to do this and connect with the community and each other!

CREATIVE CONNECTIONS ART AND POETRY EXHIBITION

This project came about after a group of community members and disability workers discussed the idea in 2006.

The aims of the project are:

* to demonstrate through creative pursuits, the diverse abilities and personalities of people who are differently-abled
* to enable differently-abled people, the community and community groups to connect with each other

The exhibition consists of:

* artworks created by differently-abled artists (mainly DSC hostel residents and clients)
* poems written to the artworks by local poets
* profiles and photos of the artists.

These are exhibited publicly and artworks and poems are for sale together. Creative Connections is a not for profit group.

2008 CREATIVE CONNECTIONS ART AND POETRY EXHIBITION

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the 2008 exhibition.

We need a team consisting of:

at least one photographer

at least one framer

at least two artistically creative, reliable people to work with the artists, alongside DSC workers

at least two or three administration people (includes finance, computer work, publicity, etc.)

at least one or two people for the poetry team.

After the success of the 2007 exhibition, we believe we can make the next exhibition even better.

This will depend on the formation of a team to make it happen.

2007 CREATIVE CONNECTIONS ART AND POETRY EXHIBITION

The 2007 exhibition ran from Thursday 3rd May to Sunday 6th May (a special trading day) at Centro Warwick Shopping Centre. Altogether there were: 29 Artworks by 26 Artists and 66 Poems by 17 Poets, and 18 of the artworks and the accompanying poems were sold. Some of the positives that came from the exhibition were:

* positive feedback about the combination of artworks, poetry and profiles
* positive public interaction, and bringing understanding, awareness and connection with artists, poets, community individuals and community groups
* rewarding for all concerned – acknowledgement and appreciation of the diverse abilities and personalities of the artists through their artworks and the accompanying poetry
* financial rewards for the artists
* positive outcome for DSC workers.
