FERN is a community organisation that provides practical workshops and fun events that encourage all walks of life to get hands-on experience and tips in ways to live sustainably. FERN offers the wider Fremantle area a relaxed hub for visitors to source local and international information on sustainable technologies and networks. On the Montreal site FERN is establishing displays of climate sensible design, energy, water and waste efficiency, and permaculture principles in its native and productive gardens. Soon an internet kiosk and friendly staff will be able to assist you in your quest for specific information.

FERN also develops and implements school and adult education programs both offsite and at the Montreal St site. An example of these programs is 'Edible & Sustainable Schools', a local small-scale initiative which is designed to work on school grounds to bring the knowledge and joy of vegetable gardening to primary school children.

FUN community events are planned to cater for all age groups. For example, regular organic markets will be held for local`s to sell their backyard grown fruit'n'veg and other yummies they cook up!
