DOCUMENTING THE ORGANISATION OF SOS_07

Organising a 5 day conference is not an easy process. The SoS collective had not spent much time together before deciding to organise this event in Perth.

The documentary is a record how a group of volunteers have organised SoS during a particularly hostile political climate. By this, I mean there is a situation where environmental and social justice activists have been accused of terrorism, have been harassed and beaten up by police at peaceful demonstrations and watched by the federal police. Intimidation tactics are being used against young people passionate about creating a just and sustainable world...

The Documentation

2007 is a federal election year. The documentation of the SoS organising collective is paralleled with archival news footage of some of the major events to have occurred over the last few months. The nuclear debate, climate change and the Iraq war, to give an idea of the current political climate in Australia. The Doco follows the consensus process that the collective use, the inter-person issues that arise in the group and the dedication and commitment of these volunteers.

The doco will be screened during the conference.

The SoS conference will be documented, also. We are in the process of figuring out how to do this and what we would like the footage to be used for. If you would like to help out in documenting SoS or if you have ideas about how to do this, contact the organising collective.
