SoS Collective Organisation and Effective FacilitationThere are many volunteers helping to bring the Students of Sustainability (SoS_07) Conference to Perth this year! The SoS collective organise autonomously, without heirachy. We do not tolerate racism, sexism or homophobia. We work to acknowledge, challenge and change these offensive, counter-productive and negative attitudes. We self organise in 'working groups', around the different aspects of the conference. We meet up for cups of tea and shared meals, getting together to create alternatives for positive change! For example, there are people working together with Indigenous people from around the country. There are people doing workshops to fix up 100 bikes to be used as sustainable transport at the Murdoch Uni campus for the conference. People are working on waste management, the ACTIVATE! tree planting and organising food for 500-1000 people. There are people working to bring International guest speakers to Perth. There are people doing finances and grant writing (students fundraise to cover all the conference costs). People are doing arts and promo, child care, the Rock Against Racism Gig and much more....... All these amazing community people are donating their time, wisdom and energy to make the SoS_07 conference an inspiring event for all the people attending. If you are interested in Volunteering, WE NEED YOU! SoS is a great opportunity to give back to the Perth community and to look after our interstate and international guests in style. We get together for a meeting once a week and discuss matters that effect the whole collective. Or, you could join a working group for an aspect of the conference you are interested in or skilled up on. Down load this pdf info on effective facilitation for collective organising. Cheers!
