Dear

Climate change, environmental justice and sustainability are the foremost concerns of Australian youth. Global warming is a reality our generation will have to face; and the Students of Sustainability Collective 2007 is helping to create movement towards a sustainable future.

This is your chance to help build the youth environment movement in Australia.

The Students of Sustainability Collective 2007 is in the process of organising the 16th Annual Students of Sustainability conference which is going to be held in Perth from July 9-15. The Students of Sustainability Conference (SoS 2007) is the annual gathering of the Australian Student Environment Network and is the largest student-run environment based conference in Australia. Over 700 young people attended SoS in July 2006, and we are preparing to host a similar number in Perth in 2007.

Each year Students of Sustainability offers an amazing opportunity for a diverse range of individuals including, students, activists, academics, environment, Indigenous groups, and prominent national and international speakers to share knowledge, skills and information on global environmental justice issues and the movement towards sustainability. This diversity in delegates and speakers allows for a broad spectrum of issues to be addressed: from the corporate sector to student activism, indigenous land management to the recycling industry, this conference offers delegates an extremely broad insight into environmental and social justice issues in Australia, and around the globe. SoS presents an excellent opportunity to form partnerships between students, academic staff, government, business and the wider community.

The SoS 2007 organising collective advocates supportive, respectful and constructive involvement in all aspects of the conference. All participants share their knowledge and learn from each other, bringing their own opinions, voices and ideas. This diversity of voices, ideas and opinions makes SoS what it is. We aim to bring together people from communities across Australia to network, inspire, celebrate, empower, and motivate us all into action to create a genuinely sustainable world.

More specifically, SoS aims to; inspire ecologically sustainable practices as an alternative - to current societal values; empower individuals and groups to bring about positive social and political change through open forums, skill sharing opportunities; create national and international networks of environmentally-minded people; integrate environmentalism with other progressive movements such as human rights and cultural awareness movements; and to create a conference that is accessible to as many people as possible.

We are asking for your support to

• educate and activate young people across Australia in the practice and community governance of environmental sustainability
• support an organisation that is creating local youth networks across Australia, and
• train, inspire and empower the leaders tomorrow.

Students of Sustainability is a youth-run organisation creating a generation for change, Inspiring and Empowering Young Leaders.
This is your opportunity to invest in that generation and a sustainable future.

All Sectors of the community will need to co-operate for the goal of sustainability to be achieved. Thus we ask for your assistance in promoting a culture of sustainability throughout the community. Money donated by government and businesses will help to make the conference accessible to all people by allowing us to subsidise the registration costs for disadvantaged people in our community

Sponsorship

At present the SoS Collective is seeking sponsorship and in-kind support from a range of potential sponsors. The Conference will give sponsors a unique opportunity to support the move towards environmental and social solutions through the education and empowerment of the community as well as the development of professional knowledge. The Conference will provide a rare marketing opportunity to promote your organisation’s sustainability practices to an audience that is very responsive to such initiatives.
A copy of our budget and media strategy will be made available to you on request.
