Devestated, Frustrated Review
XPRESS MAGAZINE - PERTH - 12/5/08
Too long the best kept secret of the discerning local music follower (and one unwashed pedantic tooth-stained anarchist) the re-emergence of Mitey Ko from their back shed with some new recorded product is another confirmation of the depth of talent and health of the local music scene.
Such is the quality of their lo-fi wizardry, Mitey Ko should be leading the charge for the local scene, but instead choose to take the road less travelled. With rare live performances, limited releases with handmade packaging, a mutineer approach to marketing, cello-led pop tunes and one of the town’s most recognised guitarists sitting on drums; the band have a unique formula.
Local poet, activist and purveyor of the truth Alan Boyd leads the trio through tunes that convey his political leanings, in particular I Met The Taliban, New Kid In Town and Smash The State - the latter with a chorus so light and hummable it is at odds with its title.
Devastated, Frustrated… is steadfast in staying true to the bands undeniable ‘do it yourself’ ethic. The band may like being Perth’s ‘best kept indie secret’ but with Devastated, Frustrated… they deserve so much more than that.
